£58,000 of debt - but can't do an IVA.
| Debt: £58,000 | Was paying: £1267/month |
| Now paying: £300/month | |
| Client has £200,000 equity in his home & unsecured debts of £58,000.
His assets are more than his debts, but he can't pay 11 creditors from a monthly income of £1,060. An IVA is not possible as his creditors would never agreed to forgive any debt when he could repay them in full by selling his property. The client does not want to remortage as he has recently become self employed and does not want to risk his home if that does not go to plan. Debt management will never pay off this debt, but it gives our client some respite from his creditors while he focuses on building his business without the fear or court action or losing his home. static link to this case study: DMCaseStudy100.asp |

3 Random Q&A's from the database:-
1. Can you guarantee a reduction in payments ?
No. Stating we can guarantee a reduction in payments is not something we are allowed to do under guidelines issued by the Office of Fair Trading. It depends on your ability to pay and is at the discretion of your creditors. However, once we take a financial statement from your and explain the situation to your creditors, they will almost certainly agreed with our proposal.
2. Must I stay on a debt management plan until all debts are repaid ?
No. You do not sign a contract with us, only a statement to allow us to contact your creditors on your behalf. Many of our clients join our debt management programme as temporary measure. For example, for a period of months when one member of the household is between jobs. Once household income returns to previous levels, you can return to paying your debts at the previous rate, directly to your creditors or make increased payments to us.You may cancel your debt management plan at any time without charge. All you need do is give us 2 weeks written notice. This does not incur any charges.
3. Why would anyone with debts over £15,000 do debt management when they could write off debt with an IVA?
Not only do you need more substancial debt for an IVA, you have to be techncially insolvent, meaning your assets must be worth less than your debts. If you have equity in property, that is taken into consideration by your creditors when considering your IVA propsal. Normally you would be expect to remortgage at some point of the IVA period to raise funds to pay into the IVA.[Warwickshire] [Avon] [Northhamptonshire] [Hereford and Worcester] [Lancashire] [Derbyshire] [Bradford] [Oxfordshire] [West Sussex] [Perthshire] [Gloucestershire] [West Yorkshire] [Suffolk] [Derby] [Sheffield] [Scotland] [Cambridgeshire] [Belfast] [Merseyside] [Berkshire] [Plymouth] [Wiltshire] [Lothian] [Clwyd] [Bristol] Debt Management Abbotsbury, Debt Management Blandford Forum, Debt Management Bournemouth, Debt Management Christchurch, Debt Management Dorchester, Debt Management Ferndown, Debt Management Poole, Debt Management Shaftesbury, Debt Management Sherborne, Debt Management Sturminster Newton, Debt Management Wareham, Debt Management Weymouth, Debt Management Wimbourne, Debt Management Wimbourne Minster,
